How much is a standard pod?

All our pods are different, so there’s no ‘standard’ structure as such.  All holiday accommodation prices are outlined here.

What’s included in the price?

The price includes your pod with all fixtures and fittings, heating & lighting, installation including grass roof etc, as specified for individual models. The cost of groundworks, service connections and specialist equipment (e.g. a crane) is not included.

Can I visit your workshop or see a completed project?

We love to show potential clients around our workshops in Boughton, Nottinghamshire, so you can see the production of our pods and have a better appreciation of build quality, attention to detail and space.  Completed pods are also available to visit and we’re happy to facilitate virtual tours using Zoom, too.

Can I design my own pod, adding features such as skylights or extra windows?

Definitely! Contact our design team who will be delighted to advise and help you plan your dream structure.  We love nothing more than a challenge, and if you can dream it, we can (probably) build it!

Could a pod be a permanent dwelling?

Absolutely!  Our pods make excellent permanent homes and you can read all about it here on our residential page.

Is my land suitable for a pod?

Pods are delivered on flatbed HGV and lowered into place using the lorry’s Hiab crane, so it’s important to have adequate access to your site for large vehicles. If access is difficult it might mean we have to think outside the box and consider gaining access across fields or the use or large cranes. We’re always happy to advise on suitability of land – why not get in touch and send us a satellite image of your proposed site?

Will you visit my site before I place an order?

Definitely!  We’ll visit to make sure your site is perfect for your new Shire Pod and will be happy to advise on groundworks.

What groundwork do I need to do prior to delivery, what about a concrete foundation?

We will provide detailed advice to help you prepare your site ahead of delivery.  Our structures do not require concrete foundations, reducing both costs and environmental impact.

Do I need to supply services to site?

Most clients choose to provide mains electricity and water to site ahead of delivery and installation, we use push-fit connections to link your pod to the networks.  If you’re not close to sewage facilities, a septic tank provides an excellent solution for waste water.

Can my pod be entirely off-grid using renewables?

It’s certainly possible to use renewable solutions in your pod.  We recommend discussing your project with a company specialising in renewables for expert advice.

Will I need planning permission?

UK planning law can be fairly complex, please see our planning section for detailed information and you can link with our planning partners who will help with your application too!

What standards do you build to?

Our holiday accommodation is manufactured and built by Nottinghamshire Pods Ltd. to British Standard: BS 3632:2018 and or BS EN 1647 are thus classified holiday lodges. We adhere to all fire and electrical safety regulations and only use suitably qualified tradespersons.

Commercial projects such as schools and residential units are built to current UK building regulations which require upgraded insulation, emergency lighting, fixed fire precautions etc.

Can you provide the structure on its own and I’ll fit it out myself?

We’re delighted to provide the structure for you to finish yourself, but given the cylindrical nature of our pods, this can be more costly if you’re not really handy with your DIY skills!

Do you supply the USA, Australia or New Zealand?

Unfortunately, due to prohibitively expensive shipping costs and geographical considerations, we’re unable to supply units outside the UK or mainland Europe at this time.

Do you supply units to EU countries?

Yes!  We’re delighted to supply units to mainland Europe, though prices quoted in our brochure exclude shipping and import / export duties which may apply.  At this time, we’re unable to install units outside the UK, but we’re happy to advise on installation and provide information for local contractors.

I’m tall, are your pods spacious?

Definitely!  Our units are designed with space in mind, our structures are 3m internal diameter as standard.

We love to show customers around our workshop and see their reaction when they step inside one of our pods. ‘Wow these are much bigger than I expected’ is the usual reaction.

Can my pod be sunk into a hillside or even buried underground?

Our pods are designed to blend into their environment and can absolutely be incorporated into a hill or buried altogether.

Are your pods warm in winter and what sort of heating do you use?

Our pods are really warm due to the structures cavity which is filled with polybead cavity wall insulation, augmented by the soil and grass which enrobe them, making them economical to run, too! Generally, we use multi-zone electrical underfloor heating, but wall-mounted heaters or LPG systems are also possible.

What about condensation?

Our pods are well-ventilated with opening doors and windows.  Kitchens and bathrooms are fitted with extractor fans too.

What’s the lead-time for your pods?

Lead-times are fluid and at present, our order books are filling up fast please CONTACT US to find out current lead times. We invite you to place a 15% build slot deposit (refundable if you change your mind for whatever reason) to secure the next chronologically available build slot.

What warranties do you provide?

The high density polyethylene structure which makes up the majority of your pod is covered by our unique 125-year structural guarantee. All interior fixtures and fittings, windows and doors are covered by a standard 2-year warranty from installation date.

If I move house, can I take my pod with me?

Absolutely!  Our pods can easily be removed from site and taken to a new location leaving virtually no environmental impact on your original location.

How do I pay, what about a deposit?

We invite clients to place a 15% build slot deposit to secure the next chronologically available build slot. (Refundable if you don’t get planning permission or change your mind for whatever reason)
A full 50% (non-refundable) deposit is required prior to ordering materials and commencing work on your project.  A further 30% is payable on delivery, with the 20% balance required following installation.

Do you offer finance?

We’re partnered with a great company so that we can offer finance options on our pods. See our finance page to find out more.

I have another question you haven’t covered here, can I contact you?

No problem, simply get in touch and we’ll be delighted to help.
