Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Mrs Gilson approached Cylindric Ltd wanting an Eco-friendly, low impact structure to be used as holiday accommodation in the heart of the Kent Downs.
Given the Kent Downs is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, she approached our company as we specialise in creating luxury accommodation that integrates with nature.
We conducted a site visit to gain a better understanding of the surroundings and to design a structure that could be integrated within the site.
A full planning application was submitted to Ashford Brough Council.
As Ashford Borough Council was unfamiliar with our products we went to great detail explaining the structures eco-credentials, building specification, construction regulations etc.
The feedback from the council was very positive and permission was granted.
Since the completion of this project in 2019, another site within the Ashford Brough Council district has submitted an application for a similar unit to be used also as holiday accommodation.
The council, having seen the success of the first project granted permission. This project is scheduled for later in 2021.
We believe our innovative structures offer the perfect solution to areas including Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Green Belt, National Parks, etc.

We were delighted with the attention to detail and personal service shown by Matthew Wright and his team. He didn’t even mind when we changed our minds and dropped the idea of a hot tub room in favour of another use entirely!
Installation (over the course of about a week) went smoothly and we enjoyed having the team around – I’ve never made so many cups of tea!
The finished product is more than the sum of its parts: we love it. Aftercare has been excellent with a couple of small snagging issues fixed promptly.

I had wanted to have a structure in the garden that made the most of the space available. A home office, a seating area, somewhere to eat with friends – a truly multi-purpose use.
The design process helped to consolidate all the many ideas I had, and talking it all through with Matt I began to see how I could get the best use out of the pod. I wanted to have a separate room, and liked the idea of a home cinema. His idea of hiding it away behind a secret bookcase door was amazing! Matt not only has the imagination, but also the skills to back it up and he brought the idea to life perfectly.
The finish inside was to an incredible standard – brick slips individually laid, wood panelling, built in furniture, and all with taking the curve of the pod beautifully into account. The size of the pod is nice and spacious inside, and with lamps, armchairs and soft furnishings along with the underfloor heating it feels really cosy too.
The home cinema is a triumph – surround sound and tiered seating that was designed for the full cinema experience. The dining area has seen many dinner parties and also serves as a great home office.
The pod is the adaptable, luxurious and amazing use of garden space that I always hoped it would be. The perfect investment.
